Status of SCN
1/11/2014 - It has been over a year since I did any real updates to the pages of Starship Combat News so you might be wondering what is up. I started SCN back in 1999 on an only Homestead shared website and it grew from there as this small niche within a niche of interests found a place to put all of the news and links about spaceship games.Star Fleet Battles Ssd Download
While I am still interested in this topic, I have other interests too and I started spending more time with those and SCN updates began to slip, to the point that in December of 2012 I made the last updates to SCN and have not since. After 13 years or so I was burned out.
So what does the future hold? Sometimes I thing I might want to buckle down and spend a week’s worth of free time researching and updating everything I can but I haven’t yet. I thing a format chance of the whole site from static pages to a WordPress based article driven format could make it easier to keep everything updated - but I don’t know WordPress well enough to do that. So if anyone out there wants to help with that, let me know.
One thing that will stay is the SCN Forum. You might not get news articles but people will post about new games, miniatures, rumors and much more. It might not be organized like it is here but you can still get your news fix if you need it.
Thanks to all of you readers out there. It was very cool for me to really learn what this internet thing could do by connecting to other people who liked this same niche of gaming.

To help out, I am compiling actual miniature sizes on a reference page so gamers can tell if miniatures are in scale with each other. When an Amacore oil rig in the Gobi Desert of Mongolia proves unproductive, Captain Frank Towns (Dennis Quaid) and co-pilot A.J. (Tyrese Gibson) are sent to shut down the operation and transport the crew (Amacore executive Ian, rig supervisor Kelly, Rodney, Davis, Liddle, Jeremy, Sammi, Rady, Kyle, Newman, and Dr. Gerber) out of the desert, along with a load of cargo from the site to be liquidated or redistributed to another site, causing the plane to be overweight. However, en route to Beijing, a major dust storm disables one engine when Towns attempts a vertical climb with the overweight plane, forcing them to crash land their C-119 Flying Boxcar in an uncharted area of the Gobi Desert. Kyle falls to his death and the crash kills Dr. Gerber and Newman. Their cargo consists of used parts and tools from the rig, the rig’s crew, and Elliot (Giovanni Ribisi), a hitchhiker. When the dust storm ends, it becomes apparent that they are 200 miles off course with only a month’s supply of water. Jeremy (Kirk Jones) thinks about walking to get help, but Rady (Kevork Malikyan) explains that July is the hottest month in the Gobi, and that he would not make it.
In the middle of the night, Davis (Jared Padalecki) goes out to urinate without informing anybody, trips, gets lost in a sandstorm, and dies. The group panics after a failed search for him, and Kelly (Miranda Otto) argues with Frank, who says that walking out of the desert would fail and that their only option is to await rescue. The group initially agrees but reconsiders after Elliot, claiming to be an aeronautical engineer, pitches a radical idea: rebuild the wreckage of their C-119 into a functional aircraft. Frank initially refuses, which causes Liddle (Scott Michael Campbell) to wander off on his own in protest. Frank attempts to find him. He comes across a valley littered with debris, cargo from the aircraft, which dropped out when the tail was torn open. Among the debris he discovers the bullet-ridden and stripped body of Kyle, after which Liddle appears saying he came to retrieve his watch which he lost to Kyle in a poker game; Towns then deduces that either nomads or smugglers used Kyle’s corpse for target practice. Liddle says he will only go back with him if they build the plane, and Frank agrees.
They struggle for several weeks building the new aircraft, during which they experience losing their fuel reserves in a spark fire, an electrical storm, lack of water, and fighting amongst the group. Rady christens it Phoenix after the legendary bird. A problem evolves when they notice a group of smugglers camping nearby. When Ian, A.J., and Rodney attempt to communicate, the bandits mortally wound Rodney (Tony Curran) after Liddle notices that one of them is wearing his watch. A fierce, but short skirmish takes place when Frank (who is with Liddle) ambushes the bandits. Most of the bandits are killed, one is wounded, and one escapes. When going through the smugglers encampment, they find a wounded smuggler and argue about what to do until Elliot walks over and executes him with a pistol. Towns accuses him of murder, but Elliot states that Towns murdered him by deciding to go investigate the smugglers after being advised against it. He also states that he caused Rodney’s death as well, therefore wasting a whole days work as well as manpower. Towns, in anger, punches Elliot which causes the project to stall due to Elliot’s no longer being interested in the project. In desperation, the remaining group agree to give Elliot complete control of the project, and the project resumes. After it is finished, it is revealed that Elliot’s aircraft design experience has been restricted to the design of model aircraft, much to the anger of everyone, especially Ian (Hugh Laurie), who threatens to shoot Elliot. However, as a storm is brewing, the high force winds causes the plane to lift off temporarily, making the group realize that Elliot’s plane will indeed fly. Forced to take shelter in the old plane’s hull during the sandstorm, they later dig out the plane from beneath the sand and take off, barely in time to escape a larger group of bandits seeking revenge for the murdered smugglers.
Through a series of photos, we see what becomes of the survivors when they make it back to civilization. All have been revitalized by the experience: Frank and A.J. start their own airline (appropriately named Phoenix Aviation), Sammi (Jacob Vargas) and his wife start their own restaurant (Jeremy and Rady are there to celebrate), Liddle is reunited with his wife and kids, Ian becomes a professional golfer, Kelly is working at an ocean oil rig, and Elliot is wearing a flight suit on a Flight International magazine cover with the headline: ’NASA’s New Hope?’Cast[edit]

Co-writer Edward Burns was personally asked by Tom Rothman, who at the time was the president of Fox and had discovered Burns when he bought The Brothers McMullen as Fox Searchlight’s first acquisition, to rewrite the film’s dialogue. Burns said, ’I probably did three drafts of it, and that was it. I never met Scott (Scott Frank, the other credited co-writer).’[2] This is the only film Burns has writing credit on that he did not also direct.
Director John Moore scouted locations in Morocco and Australia before looking at, and quickly choosing, Namibia as the crash site. ’Where most of the film takes place, was only a 20 minute-drive from the coastal town of Swakopmund.’[3] The Namib Desert location caused problems: cameras and other equipment had to be constantly cleaned of sand, and a ’couple of hundred people were employed as ’dune groomers’ so that visual continuity could be maintained.[3]
The set was the site of several mishaps:
*A ferry sank during transportation of a major set piece across a river, forcing the river bottom salvage of the aircraft fuselage.[citation needed]
*Jared Padalecki flipped his vehicle.[4]
*Concluding the aerial filming sequences, the flying C-119G N15501 suffered a long gash under the right wing when a film truck backed under it and its driver misjudged the truck’s height. A repair crew was flown in, the damaged segment re-skinned and the aircraft flown back across the Atlantic.[5]
*On June 3, 2004, camera operator and second unit cinematographer Ciaran Barry was ’filming behind a plywood barrier intended to protect his equipment’ when an 800-pound ’fiberglass model plane propelled down an elevated track, bounced off a sand dune in the Namibian desert and crashed into his hut.’[6]
For the latter, in October 2009 a Los Angeles jury awarded Barry $3.95 million in damages for broken legs and neurological damage he received during the accident; $1.3 million of the amount was awarded for lost future income.[6]
A behind-the-scenes documentary, ’The Phoenix Diaries,’ was included on the DVD. In it, director John Moore can be seen screaming at the crew. Fox executives are also not shown in a flattering light.[7] The documentary was not included in the 2006 Blu-ray release.[8]Aircraft[edit]

Flight of the Phoenix has received generally mixed reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds a ’rotten’ score of 30%, with an average rating of 4.8/10. The site’s consensus states: ’What this update lacks in tension, it makes up for with generic action.’[10] On Metacritic, the film holds a score of 47 out of 100, indicating ’mixed or average reviews.’[11] The main criticism for the film was its similarity to the original; John Anderson from Newsday said, ’if you’ve seen the original, there’s absolutely no difference in what happens. And very little reason to check it out.’ Aerofiles, a non-commercial website focusing on North American aviation history, called the film ’perhaps the worst remake ever of a classic film.’[12]Stephen Holden of The New York Times said the film is a ’rickety update of the far superior 1965 movie’ that ’throws in every cheap trick in the manual to pump up your heartbeat [and] is so manipulative that the involuntary jolts of adrenaline it produces make you feel like a fool.’[13]Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times gave the film two stars, writing ’I’m not recommending it for those who know the original, but it might work nicely enough for those who have not (seen it).’[14]
The film did receive some praise. Scott Brown from Entertainment Weekly gave the film a B grade, saying ’refreshingly, it’s actually about action, albeit arbitrary action, and how it defines us and keeps us alive.’[15] Kevin Thomas of the Los Angeles Times gave the film four stars out of five, calling it ’a worthy remake.’[16]See also[edit]References[edit]Notes[edit]

True Image comes with a handy feature to create a bootable CD in case of a total hard drive or operating system crash. This media will allow you to boot from a CD or other bootable media to restore your computer from an image if it becomes so unstable that it will not boot. This is also very handy to use if you have a physical hard drive failure and need to restore the image to a new drive. It is also used as an easy way to upgrade your hard drive.

The easiest way to perform this task is to go to the tools menu and click on the Create a Bootable Rescue Media option from the menu.
The Acronis Media Builder is a wizard that will help you create a bootable media with the Acronis components that you select.
I chose to install all of the components that I could to make this CD versatile to use for other Acronis tasks. I have the Acronis Disk Director installed so I have that option to put on the bootable CD. Of course, I chose to put the Acronis True Image Home full version on the CD. I also chose to put the Acronis Bootable Agent on the bootable CD. The bootable agent includes drivers for USB devices, PC Cards, and SCSI hard disks. Adding the Acronis Bootable Agent to the CD is strongly recommended. The Bootable Agent also allows you to access the computer remotely using the Acronis True Image Management Console.
There are other options available like adding remote logon settings and network settings for remote management.
The Bootable Media selection screen is where you choose what type of bootable media you want to create. This screen will give every available option that is available on your computer. You can even create an .ISO image and a USB drive.

When the bootable Rescue CD was finished, it told me so. It is always a good idea to try the bootable CD before the time comes that you may really need it to recover your computer. This is the first screen you will see when booting from the Acronis bootable CD. This screen will vary depending on the options you chose to include on the bootable CD. It shows you a menu of all the installed options. All of these programs can be run from the Acronis Rescue Media.
I wanted to make sure the Rescue CD could indeed rescue the computer from a crash so I chose the Acronis True Image Home option to test restore process of the image that was created in the previous review.

Select what you want to restore from the image.
The next screen shows you a summary of the tasks the utility will perform. The following screen lets you proceed with the restoration of the image. Once the image is restores, the computer boots to the state it was in when the image was created. The Acronis True Image bootable CD is easy to create and use but most importantly, it can be a lifesaver if your computer crashes to the point that it will not boot.
The most important thing to remember is to test the bootable CD before it is needed. Acronis True Image is a recommended and trusted backup and imaging program but every system is different so there is the slight chance that it may not work. We’re kicking things off with a Free-to-Play recommendation, because not all wargaming has to be super-serious or sim focused. If you’ve read our Best Naval War Games feature, you’ll know that some of us are fans of Wargaming.net’s World of Warships. It’s a super-arcadey take on 20th century naval combat for sure and the free-to-play nature introduces an element of grind, but it’s also surprisingly cerebral. It’s not quite the same for World of Tanks - it’s a slightly dumb tank game at the end of the day - but there is something refreshing about zipping along the countryside, blasting shells at enemy vehicles on the other end of the map.
The most tight-nit urban environments as well require a lot of manoeuvring and positioning, so there is room for some very tactical gameplay. These are online-only mass-multiplayer experiences, so if that’s not your thing you probably won’t enjoy WoT. If you are curious about this action/strategy gaming phenomenon, then we also recommend you try and bring a friend as these things are infinitely more enjoyable with people you know. Just be prepared to put in a lot of work to climb your way to the upper ranks.
Alternate Recommendation
Another game you might want to look at is War Thunder, which encompasses land, air AND naval combat and features fighting vehicles from WW2 right through to the Cold War. The first Panzer Corps game has been a staple on this list for a while, but we can confidently say it’s been replaced by the long awaited sequel. Panzer Corps 2 updates everything from the engine, to the mechanics.. it even adds a semblance of a logistics system! You can take your hard-as-nails corps of German tanks and infantry units from the invasion of Poland in 1939, all the way through Barbarossa, Normandy and even some alt-history scenarios involving the invasion of the American mainland.
Panzer Corps 2 has almost as much content as the first game, including expansions, with the exception of scenarios for non-German factions. Those will probably be coming in future DLCs, but in the meantime you can always make your own using the powerful Scenario Editor. Multiplayer is also souped up, with hot-seat, PBEM and ’true’ live multiplayer options available. The ’King of Wargames’ indeed.
NEW: Slitherine has released the first two DLC packs for PC2. The first onecovers the Spanish Civil War and is the first in the new Axis Operations series of DLC packs which will follow the German Army’s various campaigns through-out WW2. The next installed - Axis Operations: 1939 - was released at the end of August 2020 and covers various campaigns that took place in 1939 including Poland and Denmark.You may also like: Order of Battle
If you’re a fan of the Panzer Corps format and looking for something else to play, then Order of Battle is another Matrix-owned series that may entice you (assuming you haven’t come across it already). It was once described to me by a Producer at Matrix as ’Panzer Corps, but with logistics’, so you’ll find a very similar experience.
The base game Order of Battle WW2is actually free-to-play and comes with a handful of scenarios so that you can try it out.To date there are over 12 expansions you can purchase to then enhance your game and play through different parts of the war from various perspectives. Unlike it’s sibling it’s not looking at doing a sequel any time soon (that we know of), and is currently working on a new trilogy of expansions that follow the Soviet Union’s trials through WW2. We’d have been very surprised if the recently release Unity of Command 2 wasn’t good enough to knock the original game off its top spot. UoC 1 will always be remebered as a wonderful simple wargame, and a great gateway into the hobby, but Unity of Command 2 just takes all of the core concepts and turns it up to 11. Better visuals, better mechanics, better scenarios.. there’s a reason Jack was so impressed in his Unity of Command 2 review.
Common criticisms of the first game usually centre around it being more of a puzzle than a ’true’ wargame, which is a similar accusation levied against games like Panzer Corps. You can still see traces of that in Unity of Command 2’s design - many scenarios present you with an initial set-piece or deadlock that you need to break through, but the ways in which you can achieve it have multiplied. Plus, once you do break-through it’s still a pretty gripping fight to claim your objectives, and the AI will punish and push through to your back-lines if it sees an exploitable gap. Given your Mac isn’t new and is filled with data, you will probably need enough free space on your Mac. This includes not just space for the OS itself but also space for other applications and your user data. One more argument is that the free space on your disk translates into virtual memory so your apps have “fuel” to operate on. The chart below tells you how much free space is needed.
Note, that it is recommended that you install OS on a clean drive. Next, you will need enough disk space available, for example, to create Recovery Partition. Here are some ideas to free up space on your drive:

*Locate the biggest files on your computer:
Go to Finder > All My Files > Arrange by size
Then you can move your space hoggers onto an external drive or a cloud storage.

Normally, it is assumed that updating OS is a one-way road. That’s why going back to a past Apple OS version is problematic. The main challenge is to download the OS installation file itself, because your Mac may already be running a newer version. If you succeed in downloading the OS installation, your next step is to create a bootable USB or DVD and then reinstall the OS on your computer.
How to download older Mac OS X versions via the App Store

If you once had purchased an old version of Mac OS X from the App Store, open it and go to the Purchased tab. There you’ll find all the installers you can download. However, it doesn’t always work that way. The purchased section lists only those operating systems that you had downloaded in the past. But here is the path to check it:

The Apple Executive Team holds a regular Monday meeting to examine every single product that the company has in design phase at that point in time. This isn’t as daunting as it may sound; one of the keys to Apple’s success is that they don’t work on hundreds of new products at once. Instead, resources are concentrated on a handful of projects that are expected to bear fruit rather than being diluted over many lesser projects.
If a product cannot be reviewed at one meeting – it’s automatically at the top of the agenda for the next meeting. In practice, this should mean that every single Apple product is inspected by the executive team at least once a fortnight. This keeps delays in decision making to a minimum and enables the company to be very lean with its approach to design.The EPM and the GSM
The EPM is the engineering program manager and the GSM is the global supply manager. Together they are known within Apple as the “EPM Mafia”. It’s their job to take over when a product moves from design to production.
As you might expect, these people are usually going to be found in China, Apple does very little of its own manufacturing. Instead it relies on contract outsourcing companies like Foxconn (one of the largest employers in the world) to do this for them. This removes much of the headache of manufacturing for Apple whilst keeping production costs as low as possible. There is a significant market advantage to this approach and its one that many other electronics manufacturers are emulating now.
The EPM Mafia may sound scary (and they probably are to the suppliers) but their real job is simply to ensure that products are delivered to market in the right way, at the right time and at the right cost. They may disagree at points but their guiding principle is to act in the interests of the product at all times.Iteration Is Key
Like any good design company, the design process at Apple is not over when manufacturing begins. In fact, Apple iterates the design throughout manufacturing. The product is built, it’s tested and reviewed, then the design team improves on it and it’s built all over again. These cycles take 4-6 weeks at a time and may be run many times over a product’s development lifecycle.

On the Mac, however, the program has no idea what you’ve done manually, by clicking. So you can say something like “select fishmonger,” and the program correctly selects that word. But if you then say “italicize that” or “capitalize that,” the program operates on the wrong words, italicizing or capping something a mile away from the selection. Bizarre.
